Using the traditional painting technique of tempera on panel, this certified religious icon was made in the fall of 2016 in Bulgaria and is signed by the artist. The wooden panel used for making the icon is from a coniferous tree.
The way the icon hangs is unique and was practiced in ancient times. On the back of the icon a small hole is carved. Then a steel cord is mounted to hold it.

The Korsun Virgin, like the Virgin of Vladimir or the Virgin of the Don, is an example of the Oumileinye or 'Tenderness' type. It is said to have been brought from Chersonesus, an important Byzantine city on the Black Sea, to Kiev by Prince Vladimir the Great in 988.
